La Plata Hall at UMD College Park

"La Plata Hall was a great living space during freshman year. I loved how it is so close to the North Campus Diner, and close to a bunch of other freshman dorms. However, it is located far away from most classes so I highly recommend investing in an electric scooter or skateboard if you live here. I lived in a triple, so space was tight, but you would probably live in a spacious double bed room." See all 3 reviews

    Chestertown Hall

Out of 2 Chestertown Hall reviews , 2 of them said they lived here as a freshmen

"Spacious rooms, lots of shelf space, nice closet. Large windows that go to the ceiling, and are wide. NO A/C, which gets pretty bad. There is no front desk here so we also have swipes to Cumberland's front desk (we share and get packages there). There is only two washers and dryers, and usually one of them is out. Community is very welcoming.

Hagerstown Hall at UMD College Park

"The lack of AC is quite bad, but during the winter it's really not that bad. BRING A FAN. You need to circulate the air or it gets stagnant and crusty. Hagerstown has a few extra large rooms so I was lucky enough to stay there. Quite nice. Closet space is standard. Location is quite good. Right next to the gym (and pool) and in between 2 diners. Close to the Clarice too.

Otherwise, elevators are often broken, AC units in the lounge only sometimes work. Single microwave a fridge. Though floor 6 has a stove. Dryers and washing situation is okay since washers just got replaced. Sometimes you'll have to wait for an open dryer though." See all 3 reviews

Cumberland Hall at UMD College Park

"I was worried coming into my freshman year living in this dorm as it wasn't one of the new ones, but I quickly fell in love. Each room comes with its own AC unit which is a big deal. Not only does this mean you have AC, but you are able to always be in control of it. A lot of other dorms have AC, but it's all centralized and oftentimes is turned off. I also love having all-gender/private bathrooms in our lounges. While we don't have the privilege of having private showers, we at least have private restrooms with a sink and toilet, so at least we have privacy at times when most people in the dorms don't. Overall, the rooms are pretty standard, but I just feel like the location, the AC and the added bonus of private bathrooms just makes this dorm amazing. " See all 3 reviews

"Easton Hall is HELL. My floormates in my LLP were SUPER ANNOYING and VERY OBNOXIOUS, LOUD, AND CLIQUEY and you feel forced to change your personality and be super inauthentic to fit in with them and get them to talk to you even the slightest bit. It is excruciatingly draining and exhausting and I hate it. It totally strips you of your freedom, independence, and individuality! (ugh, this is ESPECIALLY when ur in an llp and there is an excessive emphasis on community) Freshman year sucks especially if you have other shit going on that you need to deal with so you just wanna screw it. I DO NOT LIKE ESSENTIALLY A SINGLE ONE OF THESE EXASPERATING PEOPLE they are SO ANNOYING!!!! These kids were SO SOCIALLY DOMINATING AND JUDGMENTAL like if you weren't friends with them, then you weren't friends with ANYBODY. And my stupid RA was no help. The RA did not not do nothing about it and talking to 'em about whatever bs I had to deal with the whole entire flipping 2 semesters just made me feel worse. And if you have housing accommodations, it takes WAY too many steps to get what you need and the process is WAY TOO COMPLICATED. This building is old and has about 0.02x the cleanliness and aesthetic quality of a suitable living space. Regardless of how much y'all try to make ur freshman rooms look nice, it will always be sorta ugly. Also the bathrooms are HORRIFYING. I HAD TO CLIMB MULTIPLE FLOORS TO USE THE BATHROOM BECAUSE ALL THE OTHER ONES HAD RED FUNGUS GROWING ON THE FLOORS AND NOBODY PICKED UP THEIR HAIR IN THE SHOWERS AND ONE OF THE TOILETS ON MY FLOOR NEVER FLUSHED AND THE URINALS DO NOT WORK. what the heck is up with the girls' bathrooms having urinals but not the boys??? and NO PRIVACY BARRIERS OR TOILET PAPER NEXT TO THEM?!!! I genuinely don't understand how people are willing to put their stuff on the floor or sinks. I have to get water from the dining hall to brush my teeth and one time the shower water was brown for 5 HOURS. The bathrooms are a helluva lot cleaner than the ones at my high school but are ABSOLUTELY NOT SUITABLE FOR A LIVING SPACE!!!!!!!!!!! y'all'd expect the ones in the main lobby and basement to be cleaner but they are some of the NASTIEST BATHROOMS YOU WILL EVER USE. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CAN CLEAR YOU OF ALL THE DISGUSTING GERMS YOU ACCUMULATE AFTER YOU USE THEM. tbh sometimes if you're not about to have an accident, go to the Clarice to use the bathroom. The bathrooms there are much better. imo y'all def don't wanna study there tho; it's dead and you'll fall asleep very easily.
btw UMD reslife SUCKS and if ya got dorm issues then the reslife staff just baby and pity you and don't treat you like a normal kid they treat you like a stupid baby and it feels like they don't see you as anything other than a weak sad helpless kid IT IS THE WORST you will not feel like a normal kid and they will just pity you and make you feel even more isolated and like an outcast
