Easton Hall Reviews

University of Maryland - College Park

Reviews Summary

Easton Hall is a college dorm with mixed reviews, largely shaped by issues with its facilities and staff. While the dorm boasts air conditioning—an attractive feature given many University of Maryland dorms lack it—and decent room sizes, Easton's communal bathrooms are criticized for being unhygienic and poorly maintained. Problems include persistent red fungus growth, malfunctioning fixtures, and unattractive urinal placements in women's restrooms without privacy barriers or toilet paper. Many residents report having to trek multiple floors to find a usable bathroom, with water quality issues, including brown water from showers. The dorm's location on the far corner of north campus adds an additional five-minute walk to most destinations, which students find inconvenient. Besides facilities, the reslife staff and RAs are described as overbearing and unhelpful; residents often feel infantilized and mistreated, with the reslife events deemed superficial and lacking. Social dynamics within this Living Learning Program dorm are often described as cliquey, further exacerbating a challenging freshman experience. Despite these shortcomings, amenities like a lounge with a microwave and fridge, albeit with a non-working TV, are considered small positives.

Use the bathroom on the eighth floor if you are a girl. No girls live there. The third stall in the girls bathroom on the fourth floor does not flush. There is this nasty puke sink thing next to the first stall in every floor and it’s dirty as fuck nobody ever uses that bs. And they don’t clean it. The floor is covered in germs and red fungi. The fifth floor boys bathroom has no urinals but the fourth floor girls bathroom has one but there is no toilet paper there so wtf are you supposed to do? And no privacy barriers next to the urinals. How do guys use the urinal. And it’s impossible to aim right in the urinal you’ll just piss on the floor. Don’t use the bathroom in Easton. Go to eppley or the Clarice.

I hate the Easton resident director. And the dumb RAs. They are the worst people in the world and they make you feel like shit and they treat you like you’re inferior if you have problems. The RAs are cheesy and the reslife events are dumb. They have no social interaction besides the stupid reslife staff who just treat you like a fucking baby and make you feel like a fucking loser. My RA is socially clueless and expects you to be best friends with everyone and join the floor playlist and shit and acts like your fucking mommy. She is cheesy. I AM A GODDAMN ADULT YOU ARE NOT MY MOMMY STOP BABYING ME AND MAKING ME LOOK EVEN SHITTIER. They just make you feel worse and are no fucking help. And my other RA fucking CONTRIBUTES TO ALL THE DISCRIMIN...

Easton Hall is HELL. My floormates in my LLP were SUPER ANNOYING and VERY OBNOXIOUS, LOUD, AND CLIQUEY and you feel forced to change your personality and be super inauthentic to fit in with them and get them to talk to you even the slightest bit. It is excruciatingly draining and exhausting and I hate it. It totally strips you of your freedom, independence, and individuality! (ugh, this is ESPECIALLY when ur in an llp and there is an excessive emphasis on community) Freshman year sucks especially if you have other shit going on that you need to deal with so you just wanna screw it. I DO NOT LIKE ESSENTIALLY A SINGLE ONE OF THESE EXASPERATING PEOPLE they are SO ANNOYING!!!! These kids were SO SOCIALLY DOMINATING AND JUDGMENTAL like if you we...

The two major downsides are the bathrooms and the location. First, the communal bathrooms are very old and have very cramped showers. Also, there is no space to put your toiletries while washing up. Second, Easton is located at the very corner of north campus so I have to make an additional 5 minute walk to basically everywhere (it doesn’t sound like a lot but it gets very inconvenient). Other than those two things, Easton is similar to most of the freshman dorms except the new ones (Pyon Chen and Johnson Whittle). At least, it has AC.

Easton is decent- we have AC and a decently sized room. Also the lounge has a microwave and fridge which is nice. However the bathrooms are really dirty and it is also annoying how all the floors do not have places to fill your water bottle. In addition, Easton is pretty far from a lot of classes which can get annoying.

The main pro of Easton Hall is that it has air conditioning, since many of UMD dorms do not. The main con is that there are very few bathroom stalls that aren't maintained well, and they are dirty.

Had no kitchen or fridge in the lounge, and the TV didn’t work. There are no substantial issues with this dorm though, it’s just a little far from the main part of campus.
