"- Room quality
pretty good, the furniture looked nice. dorms didn't have that prison cell look to it and felt more like mini rooms. no complaints here really, just your average dorm room.
-Building
West lothian is one of the older buildings at UCR, but it's more than satisfactory. no complaints here. West lothian i believe does not have an option to change the AC in your room but east does. honestly not that big a deal if you have your own fan.
-Bathroom
communal bathrooms. unless you have titanium balls and don't mind having others hear you plop out your shits, you'll have to wait until non-peak hours to enjoy your shits. and even then, people have caught onto this situation so even then you'll be sitting there taking a shit at 3 am and masses of people will still somehow walk in there. that is my only complaint really, you may have to practice your silent shitting technique before feeling comfortable in this dormitory
-location
everything on campus is within 10~15 minutes walking distance. no complaints here, all on-campus dorms have good locations." See all 26 reviewsNumber 4

"People love to hate on AI cuz it's the oldest out of the dorms but honestly, my experience here was great. It's the closest to campus out of all the dorms which means walking to classes was super easy. It's also right across from the gym so that's also really convenient. It also is one of the res halls that have a dining hall and a Scotty's (convenience store) built-in so if you're hungry that's also easily accessible.
It was always kept clean and the same goes for my specific hall. The bathrooms were also neat although one complaint I had was that the curtains were pretty flimsy. We were able to solve that pretty easily though, you just have to spray the curtain down to the wall so it won't move. I lived in a double and it had just the right amount of space in my opinion. If you choose to live in a triple, go with a triple bunk instead of a triple loft because imo the triple loft makes the room cramped and takes up a lot of space.
But honestly, it was a great experience for me because of all the people I met there. I seem to find that people who live in AI are more chill than the other dorms and more social. Definitely don't live here if you don't like interacting with people and prefer to be by yourselves." See all 29 reviewsNumber 3
Dundee
Out of 35 Dundee reviews , 34 of them said they lived here as a freshmen

"I have lived in Dundee for the past 2 years. The dorm itself is the smallest dorm out of all of the residence halls. The plus side is that you can control the air conditioner and it goes all the way down to 68 C. Although the room is very narrow, it is pretty long and has high ceilings. Because I had a single, there was still a good amount of walking space. The bathrooms are pretty clean. One thing that I noticed is that the terraces for both A and B buildings get pretty noisy and attract a lot of people that are not from the building or not campus affiliated. B building is definitely not as clean as A building, but A building has its hot water get cut out more often. Honestly, Dundee is very nice to look at but it is not functional once you look at everything and live in the building for an extended period of time. But not too bad since the showers are the best part of living here." See all 35 reviews

East Lothian

"The room was a sort of a weird shape with a divot, and because of where my room was (Hall E), sunlight always woke me up during the day no matter how the blinds were angled. otherwise, the bathrooms were communal but stayed relatively clean (for the little ventilation it had), and the room itself was very roomy! socially wise you make the most of it yourself, east lo is definitely one of the better dorms out there!" Pentland Hills
Out of 73 Pentland Hills reviews , 72 of them said they lived here as a freshmen
based on 73 reviews
"Every Pentland building is going to be pretty antisocial compared to the other freshmen dorms like AI and Lothian. The main lounge can be used for a movie or game night which is really cool, but it'll be hard to find friends that use the lounge on a regular basis. This is because each suite, or hallway, has its own sitting area with a fridge and sink that most people use instead of the main area. The building is pretty nice and is a bit newer than the other dorm buildings except East Lothian, but it's not much of a difference.
Pros: private bathroom, quiet, easy bike access, AC/heat control, communal fridge plus mini-fridge in each room, third floor has a large loft that you can stand in, each building has its own laundry room, nearby small gym, full kitchen with stove and oven
Cons: ANTISOCIAL, no dining hall, bit further from campus, have to go outside to get to computer/printing room, huge unavoidable puddles when it rains
Things to consider: third floor of each building has a loft that's taller than the other floor's, oven is a bit small" See all 73 reviews
