West Lothian Reviews

UC Riverside

Reviews Summary

West Lothian dormitory at UCR is a mixed bag, offering both positive and negative aspects according to student reviews. The dorm provides spacious storage under the beds and ample closet space, though the beds are quite high. It boasts communal areas like a dining hall, Starbucks nearby, piano and meditation rooms, and a courtyard. However, the thin walls and doors can be a drawback, and students have no control over the thermostat. The location is convenient for accessing campus facilities but may have Wi-Fi issues for those living farther from the floor. The social atmosphere is a highlight, making it easy to forge friendships. On the downside, the outdated facilities and lack of temperature control can be inconvenient. The communal bathrooms can also be a concern if hygiene standards are not maintained. Overall, West Lothian offers a lively environment with proximity to dining options and study spaces, but its age and maintenance issues may deter some residents.

There is a lot of storage space under the beds and the closets are spacious. The beds are quite high so just beware of that.

PRO: There is a dinning hall! There is Starbucks nearby! There are piano rooms! There are meditation rooms! There is a courtyard! Clean bathrooms! CON: Thin walls. Thin doors. You cannot control the thermostat but I feel the RA keep it at a good temperature. Expect thin doors. No key fobs, only keys. If you live far from the floor the Wi-Fi will probably suck. Although I like living here. There is a bed, desk, fridge, and microwave.

Pros- Everyone is very social. It's really easy to make friends here. Cons- The facility feels really outdated and old. There's no adjustable heating/AC which is really inconvenient.

Pros: easy to get to know other students, several places to rest in (study room, lounge, terrace on each floor), convenient location for dining hall and orbach library, meets basic necessities Cons: communal bathrooms can be dirty if living with students who do not take after themselves, some rooms have slight leaks, very hill-y when leaving and entering, some washing machines may not work from time to time

Pros: Easy walk to campus (speed walking I got to the middle of campus in 5 mins), dining hall and Starbucks are very close Cons: Building is a bit older: you don't get to control the ac, giant water bubbles in the wall when it rains , the laundry room was in the basement and was a bit creepy especially bc it didn't have the best lighting

One of the pros of living in West Lothian is that it is right next to Starbucks which allows me to get my daily coffee intake. The dorms are also kind of spacious. A con is that the bathrooms seem outdated and the showers are gross.

Pros: Starbucks and the convenience store are really close. The Lothian building also has its own cafeteria. Plus, you will mostly likely meet lots of lively people. Cons: The building is old, I remember having lots of rain leaks in my dorm, but I think they already solved the issue. Though, stuff similar to this is prone to happen.

As much hate as it gets, I don’t think West-Lo is as bad as everyone makes it. The bathrooms are not always the cleanest but that’s the fault of an individuals. It sucks you can’t change the temperature but it is what it is. It’s the closet to campus though which is nice but the farthest from things like Glasgow.

The pros of West-Lo: they have a dining hall downstairs, a nearby Starbucks, and Glen Mor market. The cons: it is far from the campus and It is smaller compared to East-Lo. :(
