The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a public research university in Illinois in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana.

At UIUC, all students who are classified as first years dorm on campus. There are dorms across both the Urbana and Champaign parts of campus with two different types of dorms: public dorms and private certified housing. Within some public dorms there are also Living Learning Communities (LLC’s) which are application based to live in and strive to bring together different student communities. ADA accessible public dorms can be found in Ikenberry Commons and special living dorms are spread out throughout campus. Private certified housing tends to be more expensive but has perks that public dorms don’t have. Some private certified housing are meant for certain demographics and accommodate for special living circumstances as well.

Hendrick House offers a generally positive dorm experience with a few notable aspects. The rooms are praised for being nice and spacious, featuring ample storage, large desks, and tall windows that provide plenty of natural light. However, some occupants have noted issues with the temperature control, which can be sensitive and require frequent adjustments. The shared bathroom situation, which accommodates four people, is considered a more favorable option than communal bathrooms. The dining hall food receives mixed reviews; while non-vegetarians find it satisfactory with a good variety, vegetarians often have limited regular options. The location of Hendrick House is appreciated for its quiet setting, although it is somewhat distant from campus social activities, making it less ideal for those seeking vibrant social interaction. Amenities are abundant, and being just a couple of blocks from the main campus and engineering quad makes it convenient for engineering students. Overall, it provides a comparable dorm experience with a unique set of advantages and a few drawbacks.
