Princeton University dorms come in many different styles including traditional-style dorms to more modern suite-style dorms. Most commonly, first-year students fill out a housing form selecting their preferences and are sorted into one of Princeton’s 7 residential colleges: Rockefeller (Rocky), Mathey, Forbes, Butler, New College West (NCW), Yeh, and Whitman. Each residential college contains several dorm halls that can have singles, doubles, quads, suite-style double, or qingles (4 singles in a quad). Princeton students are guaranteed housing for all 4 years, but for the first two years, students must remain in their respective residential colleges. Upperclassmen are then given the option to continue living in their residential college, draw into a different residential college, or move off-campus.

Forbes College Main offers a diverse variety of dorm experiences, balancing pros and cons based on location and room type. The newer wing of the dorm boasts spacious rooms with ample natural light, walk-in closets, and better privacy, though it lacks air conditioning and occasionally hosts a few roaches. In contrast, the main inn section has smaller rooms but benefits from a central location for dining and communal activities. Rooms like 216 and 268 offer private bathrooms with fantastic views—216 faces the sunset over Forbes backyard, while 268 overlooks the front lawn. However, room 268 has experienced plumbing issues due to its position beneath a third-floor men's bathroom. Dorm aesthetics vary, with some rooms feeling a bit dungeon-like, although customization with putty or command hooks is possible without damaging paint. While tile flooring is standard, carpets aren't necessary, and heating is notably efficient. Overall, Forbes College Main presents a choice between larger, more isolated rooms in the new wing, and smaller but centrally located options in the main inn.
