I have lived at University Village for the past 2 years. The floor plan I decided to go with was the 1x1D located in phase 2. Compared to the other 1x1 models, this one is the largest and definitely worth the extra money if you value space. Some of the perks of this model is that it includes an in-unit washer/dryer and an outdoor patio with some extra storage space. It is a bit of a walk to get to central campus but I prefer being on the quieter side of UTD. Other than that, I would say I have really enjoyed my time living here.
I'm at Phase 8 in a 4x2. Lived here for over a year and a half. The amount of space itself is the only con. It is all about expectations. Its affordable student housing. There are times when the appliances need to be fixed. The maintenance staff are great and responsive to work orders. It is generally clean. Super close to campus(5 min walk to classes). I've always felt pretty safe too.
It was not built to be future-proof so many things are old or broken. There's usually garbage behind the fridge when you move in or stuff like that.
Depending on which phase of UV you are living in, your location is either really close to campus or a little bit further away. Regardless, I think the walking distance from your apartment to campus should not be more than 10-15 minutes. UV is not as nice as Canyon Creek Heights but it does have a cozy vibe to it (and UV comes unfurnished so you need to buy your own furniture). Most apartments are carpeted but they are slowly changing them starting from Phase 1 to wood floors. If there are any issues with your apartment, submit a work order and maintenance people usually don't take long to solve the issue! I've been living at UV for almost a year and I feel safe and really like it so far.
