ship is in an ideal location—near academic buildings and by pilot house. the interior is pretty mediocre but the community of the building makes up for it.
Shipstad Hall is very close to the bus stop, so it's very convenient for visiting different areas of Portland, especially during your freshmen year. The community was very strong, and the RAs and hall directors would plan multiple community events to get to know everyone more. The bedroom was a good size, but they crammed 3 people together (a forced triple). Since there's no AC, the rooms get very hot in August and closer to the summer time. The bathrooms were okay, but a lot of people would leave trash behind or would throw up in the toilet stalls. The laundry room was in the basement, and some of them wouldn't work on different occasions.
I was in an "extended double," which was really just cramp 3 people into what would normally hold two. The bathrooms on each floor were split into wings based on sex with a common bathroom with toilet stalls and shower stalls. Laundry was located in the basement along with the kitchen. 1st and 3rd floors contained lounges with pool tables, foosball, and a TV on the latter. There was a chapel on the first floor for weekly dorm mass should you choose to attend. The staff and RAs were super cool and there were a lot of bonding activities I wish I took part of when I was there. It gets pretty hot during the first month of the academic year, so not having AC was dreadful. I liked that the dorm was right at the edge of campus, so it was convenien...
