Living in Tropicana Gardens was alright. The suite-style living was interesting and having a living room and a bathroom shared with only 4 people was nice. However, the quad room was only provided with 2 desks, and we were rejected when we requested additional desks. Our rooms also a huge ant problem, with many crawling onto my bed (on the top bunk!!) every morning. We also had mold develop in the bedroom and the heater did not work at all. While Tropicana Gardens is closer to IV than most of the other dorms, getting a dorm at Tropicana means that your meal plan is only for the Tropicana dining halls at Gardens and Del Norte. That is, unless you pay for an additional meal plan, you cannot eat at an on-campus dining hall.
Tropicana Gardens was a great experience for me. Most rooms have 3 bedrooms- a small double, a bigger double, and a triple/quad with its own bathroom. The small double and the bigger double share a bathroom. One of things I loved most was that we had a living room in our suite. Most dorms don't have that kind of feature, and the location was also a big plus. It is located on El Colegio road, and is close to both campus and also to Isla Vista.
