Manzanita Village Reviews

UC Santa Barbara

Reviews Summary

Manzanita Village is considered one of the top undergraduate dorms at UCSB, praised for its spaciousness and modern amenities. The dorm consists of several 4-floor buildings, each equipped with a little kitchen or living area, though only select buildings offer hydration stations and complete kitchens. It boasts private, lockable bathrooms that are not attached to rooms or communal, providing ample privacy. Many rooms offer stunning views of the ocean, making for a picturesque living experience. While some rooms are spacious, others can be quite cramped, particularly in the case of small doubles. The location is strategic, being close to Isla Vista and offering a peaceful respite due to its distance from the main campus hustle, which appeals to those focused on academics. However, this distance could be a drawback for students with classes on the opposite side of campus. Manzanita has a reputation for being quiet, sometimes perceived as antisocial, which might not appeal to outgoing freshmen looking for active social engagements. The proximity to natural areas, such as the lagoon, means occasional ant issues; thus, cleanliness is vital. Overall, Manzanita Village is celebrated as a bright, serene space that supports academic focus, complemented by occasional scenic views of nature, like seeing dolphins from the dorm windows.

Manzanita is probably one of the top 3 undergrad dorms due to its size. I really like how the buildings are 4 floors and have a little kitchen/living room area. One of the things that some people won't like about Manzanita is its location from all the classrooms.

Fairly quiet environment; wasn’t especially poppin. Bathrooms were pretty clean and private. My room was a small double and it was pretty cramped but other rooms were large.

I really loved living in Manzi, and I think it’s one of the better dorms at UCSB. It’s really close to IV, and since it’s on the edge of campus you don’t get as much foot traffic. Super close to Carrillo and you have a pool. I also loved the bathrooms. They’re not connected to any room and they’re not communal, which is really great for privacy. However, since you’re so close to the lagoon, there tends to be ants so just be careful about leaving food out and make sure to clean up after yourself.

Manzanita is one of the nicest dorms on campus IMO. The bathrooms are spacious and can be locked. The buildings are renovated and some have great views of the ocean too. I think the location is super convenient if you want to be close to IV as well. The only downside is that only a few buildings have hydration stations or kitchens.

My favorite dorm. Some rooms have ocean view. Rooms are all kinda different sizes, some are much better than others, but in general a very bright, beautiful space. Further from most classes, but worth it. Saw the dolphins from my dorm once. bathrooms are great.

Super antisocial as a freshman dorm. multiple houses in close proximity so you will hear random screams and people singing frozen songs at 2am. i lived in the women in stem house (madulce). no interactions with others. 24/7 quiet hours. far from classes especially stem classes like chem 1171 but close to isla vista. best part was private bathrooms and it was easy to study due to how quiet. and the view was nice if you lived in the top floor. my house had no kitchen but we did have a microwave and drinking station. the idea is that certain houses have some amenities and you are supposed to share with the other houses in your quad so other houses will have kitchens if you don’t for example.

I lived here my freshman (triple) and sophomore (double) year. I really liked it. My 2nd yr I had a view of the quad and ocean. The only complaint I had was my roommate during my sophomore yr but that’s not the room’s fault. I liked that it was quiet bc it was good for focusing on school, and I would hangout w friends at carrillo 24/7. If u wanna be focused on school and know friends will distract u this is a great place to live. (Study at home, go out to party) It’s also the nicest/newest dorms on campus.

Great room but awful to live in. Manzanita is EXTREMELY antisocial. I lived here for a quarter and became extremely depressed. I spoke to no one in the building, it was always too quiet and no other freshman were around. Grew extremely depressed as a result. Would not recommend to any freshmen.
