East & Central Apartments Reviews

Boston University

Reviews Summary

The East & Central Apartments offer a mix of convenience and spacious living at Boston University, situated right on Comm Ave for optimal campus access. Many residents appreciate the generous living space, especially in the two double apartments, and the private rooms available in some doubles. The kitchen is a highlight, boasting extensive counter and cabinet space, although some apartments have lingering maintenance issues like non-functioning burners or small kitchen areas. While the bathrooms are mostly functional, certain apartments have issues like doors that don't lock. Noise can be a concern, especially in apartments facing the street or those near nearby attractions like the Dugout Bar and Insomnia Cookies. Additionally, the dorm can be dark if rooms face the internal courtyard. Mice have been a reported issue, though bug problems are notably absent. Residents commend the dorm's prime location, excellent for those wanting quick access to campus resources, public transport, and amenities like CVS. However, be prepared for older facilities, frequent maintenance requests, and be mindful of potential mouse intrusions.

I lived in a two double apartment in 728 Comm Ave. The living room and kitchen were both very large, but my one word of warning is that, if you have a living room facing the internal courtyard, it will be dark all of the time. At no point during the year did it get brighter. That being said, the kitchen has the most counter space and cabinet space that I've seen in any BU apartment. It was genuinely very nice, barring the electric coil stove where only two of the burners consistently worked. The bathroom was a decent size, but it didn't lock. This did cause problems. There is one bedroom that is absolutely enormous, has multiple closets, and is functionally the size of a warren quad. The other bedroom is smaller (but still decently sized) a...

I lived in 728 comm Ave and I absolutely loved it. I lived in a double and had my own room. I have two cons to this place, there is a mouse problem in the building and there was a mouse in my room. Pest control came and covered the void but that hole was only covered up because a mouse had gotten in. Second con is that one person will get their own room but one person will get the living room next to the kitchen. This only applies to the DOUBLES. it was amazing to have my own room but sucked for my roommate. Overall, enjoyed it and it’s such a nice place to be right in the center of campus!

I live in the whitestones. It's pretty ok, some of the facilities are pretty old. There's a laundry in the basement which is nice, I don't have AC (I live in the basement) so I can't speak for the entire building. Generally the location is unbeatable, and everything is just "good enough"

I lived in the 714 Commonwealth Avenue Apartments. Not a huge apartment, but enough space for 3 friends. Kitchen was very gross and needed a deep clean when we moved in. No window in kitchen for ventilation. Apartment was great so we were right in the middle of campus. Couple of cons- right above insomnia cookies and the Dugout Bar- so the early AM was very loud of weekends (lots of loud music, fighting). We also only had one other apartment below us, in general it was quiet. No RA in building, but it kind of stunk because the girls below us would rip cigs in the apartment and BU did nothing. We also didnt have internet or cable until halfway through the year and BU only fixed it when we kept calling them about it.

Cons: The laundry is up to two blocks away and there are no elevators. The kitchens and bathrooms are so small it’s hysterical.
Pros: some have AC. The singles are small with big closets. It’s super convenient and very quiet.

I loved living in the whitestones my senior year! First, the location is perfect. You're right across Marsh chapel, with the T right in front of you, CVS on your left and insomnia cookies on your right. If you still have a dining plan, Warren Towers is just a block away too. Second, the room I was in was pretty nice-- we had a private bathroom, kitchen, and me and my roommate each had our own room. There was also a laundry room in the basement which is really convenient, especially during the long winter season. Even though the building's a bit old, me and my roommate really loved living there and making the place our own. Highly recommend if you're looking for that apartment vibe but still want the conveniences of being on Comm Ave

Whitestones have the perfect location (7 minute walk to SCI, 10 minute walk to West Campus Target/Stuvi1), 5 minute walk to south, right in front of the St. Mary's BU Bus stop/next to green line). The apartments are a bit dated (bathroom and carpeting is clearly old) and in my apartment (2 doubles) there was only one bathroom. Can be sometimes loud at night if you sleep in room facing Comm. Ave. Still, overall, love these apartments, would live here again simply how convenient it is.
