Is Sanford Hall the best dorm at University of Minnesota?

Students rated Sanford Hall a 3.3/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.

I lived in an expanded triple. There was no air conditioning, but it was only bad for the first few weeks in the fall. I liked the layout of the halls being H-shaped with the elevators and bathrooms in between. It kinda made it hard to meet others, but I later found out my floor was way less social than other floors. Beds were fine, but I also had a mattress topper from Target. The dining hall was good, better than most on campus. It has been renovated since I lived in Sanford. They also have a C-store which is like a mini convenience store. I definitely used my flexdine on Ben and Jerry's from there. Overall really glad I lived in Sanford, especially with the campus bus route right outside the building and it was close to target express, coffee shops, etc.

There is NO AC!! The heating system is super old so the temperatures are always really extreme, no matter what season it is. Rooms are all diff sizes and you have no control over which room you get. There is one communal kitchen for the whole building - 2 ovens/stoves and 1 microwave. Laundry is in the basement and it’s always full, it’s an annoying deal to do laundry.Bathrooms/trash don’t get cleaned on the weekend. Bathrooms have no shelf space and are communal. Dining hall is gross and not worth the money. However living in this area is really convenient. There is a bus stop for almost every bus right outside the front door. The walk to Target and restaurants is really quick. Definitely bring your own microwave, fridge/freezer, lamps, and a couple of fans. There’s also nearly no outlets in the rooms so bring a lot of surge protectors/extension cords. My roommate & I had one box fan in the window & one stand fan, plus a mini fan clipped to our loft beds. A double room comes with 2 desks, 2 chairs, 2 trash cans, and 2 dressers.
