Lander Hall Reviews

University of Washington West Campus

Reviews Summary

Lander Hall is one of the newly built and modern dorms at the University of Washington, offering a clean and well-maintained environment with contemporary amenities. It features lounges, study areas, and shared kitchens, all of which are praised for their cleanliness and functionality. The dorm's proximity to the Ave and the district market is convenient for students, providing easy access to food and essentials. Additionally, the west campus dining hall and package collection desk are located under Lander Hall, adding to its convenience. However, some students find its urban location a bit unsafe, and its social atmosphere less lively compared to north campus dorms. The dorm's quietness, however, is appreciated by those who value peaceful sleep. Private bathrooms are a plus, though communal areas and kitchens can occasionally be messy and crowded. The dorm features singles that are modern yet small and triples whose comfort varies with organization strategies. Lastly, international students add diversity, although social interaction may remain limited.

One of the newly built and modern dorms at UW, so the amenities like the lounges, study areas, and shared kitchen are all clean and really nice! Great choice if you enjoy being in the city. It's also right next to the Ave and the district market, which is convenient for getting food! Another pro is that the west campus dining hall and the front desk, where you can collect your packages, are also under Lander. The cons would be that since its more in the city and next to the Ave, it can be a little unsafe. Also, the social setting is less lively than the north campus dorms. However, that wasn't too bad for me because the quietness allowed me to sleep peacefully.

Lander was a fine dorm with nice private bathrooms but the social scene is meh and the communal areas and kitchens were always very messy and packed.

The single is nice and up to date but very small. Building is kind of dark and it would be nice if there were more windows and light. $4500/qtr seems pretty dang steep to me for a 160sqft box with 1 window, but overall pretty good. Don’t like that you can only check out a vacuum between 5-6pm

Triples are hit or miss depending on the way you organize it - me and my roommates had a great layout where we had plenty of floor space with all our beds bunked, but definitely saw some very cluttered layouts. The year I lived it was a winter break dorm, and as such had a fairly large international student population. Could be a positive of an opportunity to meet new people, however I found that everyone just kept to themselves more and stuck to their own groups.

The floor kitchen was alright but tended to be very busy and it was difficult to cook anything

I was in a triple bedroom, which ended up being a left over handicap room, so it was pretty nice that none of us had to bunk. I saw really cramped rooms though, as some people lived in singles made to fit two people so you could touch one bed from the other. The building was pretty good. There are two full kitchens (oven, stove, microwave, sink, no refrigerator) on every floor (other than one which has less rooms, the laundry room, and one kitchen) which is convenient if you want to cook. The in-house dining hall and package/desk office isn't accessible by the living area which is sort of inconvenient.
