Unit 3 Reviews
UC Berkeley
Reviews Summary
Unit 3 at Berkeley is a dorm known for its prime location, being close to campus and various food options. Despite being one of the older buildings, it offers spacious rooms with good natural lighting, ample storage, and study lounges on each floor. The dorm is praised for its social atmosphere, making it easy to meet new friends. However, some students have mentioned safety concerns, cleanliness issues in bathrooms, and maintenance issues like broken elevators. The communal laundry room can be inconvenient, and the dining hall may not be the best on campus. Overall, Unit 3 provides a true college experience with a strong sense of community and a convenient location for students to enjoy their time at Berkeley.

Close to campus. Right next to the worst dining hall. Bad gym with only 3 machines. Moldy bathrooms with broken showers. Low roofs. Cost of a triple is more than a double in Martinez.
You would love this dorm if you are a fan of the movie ratatouille. I'm joking , but obviously the building aura was inspired by the Cold War Soviet Union, and is meant for character development. For the price, the basic human rights(restrooms, beds, elevator, all mid btw) are not very American dreamy. The restrooms are unisex, I'm not saying I had a problem with it but I would rather not hear the opposite sex nonstop ruining the toilet next to me. Don't come here if you crave aesthetics in a building , this building is as joyless as a Cafe 3 vegan patty, BUT the community is more lively unlike other buildings, cough* cough* Blackwell. Hope this didn't shatter your hopes and dreams...go bears!
Building is a bit old but the location is convenient - close to campus and a bunch of restaurants and boba
Not bad, your experiences really depend on your floor. I got lucky and had a relatively social floor and everyone was chill and friendly. I also got lucky with a double that was in one of the lounges, so we had extra space. The bathrooms could definitely be cleaner and there are for sure some safety issues, but overall, decent experience.
I lived in Beverly Clearly (BC) and it was really nice! I lived in a triple with the room being very spacious, good natural lighting, and 2 built-in closets and a wardrobe closet for each person. There were 4 bathrooms on the floor (with them being cleaned every day except for the weekends) and a trash/recycling area on the floor! Bathrooms also had locker storage with about ~12 lockers in each bathroom (lockers were large enough to fit plastic shower caddy & more)! My room was located at the end of the hallway in the corner and it was near a bathroom, trash/recycling area, water foundation and emergency exit. There are also study lounge on each floor and BC also has a courtyard and 1st lounge (with pool and foosball table & large tv monit...
The bunk beds for the triple rooms are dangerous since they are too close to the ceiling. There is no way to sit upright in the bed as you will hit your head just crawling into bed. I have contacted the fire department and they have said that they are a safety violation. However, maintenance and directors of the unit refuse to change anything.
As a freshman living in unit 3 (Priestley) I would say the best thing about it is the location as it’s very convenient (close to campus , and Telegraph) and the people here are definitely more social and are friendly. I will say though that the building is old and could definitely use some revamping. The kitchen is okay but it’s tiny and can sometimes be really dirty. I live in a triple and it’s quite small. Rooms are tiny but the views are pretty nice. There is definitely lots of noise at night and no one seems to really care about safety here. The laundry room is okay, I think the machines could be better but it’s unit 3 after all.
I think the location of unit 3 is the best part of this dorm, even though it may be the oldest. Because of it's proximity to campus, it is a great dorm if you want to be in the central hub of all the food, nightlife, and closeness to campus. The bathrooms are spacious enough even though they may be musty, and the building isn't the newest. Corner rooms are larger than normal rooms.
I lived in the Ida Sproul building of Unit 3 and we got a corner room, so our room was a little more spacious. Ida Sproul wasn’t very new or extravagant and our elevator broke a lot, but it was clean, we got an amazing view, and the atmosphere was really welcoming and nice. Unit 3 is also only five minutes from campus and has its own dining hall and study/mail center, so that’s a plus.
I wouldn’t recommend putting it as one of your housing options simply because it is the oldest of the units potentially the worst dorm beside foot hill. U3 is close to campus and other food options as well as Cafe 3 Dining Hall which is in the vicinity. It costs the same to live in a unit 3 double, a blackwell double, and a clark kerr double so at the end of the day, if you want more for your money, go with clark kerr or blackwell.
