Blackwell Hall Reviews
UC Berkeley
Reviews Summary
Blackwell Hall offers a luxurious living experience with its modern amenities and central location near campus. The building, constructed in 2019, boasts a hotel-like atmosphere with helpful staff at the front desk, a private gym, and study lounges on each floor. Residents appreciate the cleanliness of the communal bathrooms that are cleaned twice daily, as well as the convenience of having laundry rooms, package services, and an academic center within the building. The rooms, primarily doubles with a few singles, feature hardwood flooring, individual closets, and included microwaves and mini-fridges. Despite the smaller room size, the layout provides a sense of personal space. The dorm also offers social lounges and recreational facilities like ping pong and pool tables for students to enjoy. However, some students have noted a lack of social interaction beyond the initial weeks, requiring proactive effort to engage with hallmates. Overall, Blackwell Hall is highly regarded for its upscale facilities, proximity to campus, and comfortable living environment.

Pros: close to campus, great gym, spacious rooms, and excellent studio lounges with free printing. Convenient water, fountain, and laundry machines in each floor. Cons: won’t fix any problems (ex:lighting in room) if issues arises
Blackwell was pretty nice to live in. The building is obviously the newest (built in 2019) so the amenities are great and it has a very modern feel. There are plenty of study lounges (though lots of times used as social lounges) and a gym in the building which is nice. Many freshman want to live in the building but don't get a chance to until their sophomore year. It's not an ideal dorm environment for an extroverted freshman as the dorm scene is pretty isolating and everyone keeps their doors closed. The living experience is more apartment style with a communal bathroom.
I lived in one of the only few dozen singles and it was HUGE. It had nice flooring, fast elevators, a super cool lobby, and I liked a lot of the other freshmen there. The location was very nice and close to campus with some pretty cool restaurants right around the corner. There are many cons though. The room smelled really bad when I first moved in, and my particular window was abnormally small. I hated my neighbors as they were too loud and always made the halls very gross, despite the amazing daily cleaning service. The room didn’t get enough light and there was a really loud custodial sink right behind my bed that woke me up every morning at 9am, but it was a good alarm clock hahaha. I also wish they let us use the kitchen but they close...
Pros include its central location, modern amenities, and social opportunities. Cons include its higher cost, potential noise, and crowding. Expect to be part of a community, enjoy convenience, and have flexibility in housing options.
As a Freshman who’s living at Blackwell now, I have to say that this residence hall is super nice. They have great amenities that you might take for granted. Laundry rooms on every floor, 2 study lounges on each floor, 1 social lounge on each floor, package service (you get sent an email when your package arrives), an academic center on the first floor, oh and a private gym. Housekeeping also cleans the bathrooms 7 days a week, twice a day (this is uncommon at other residence halls) The room itself is an ok size, there’s a clear distinction between your side and your roommate’s side (if you’re in a double). There is a microwave and fridge included in all rooms. There’s a trash room on every floor. Overall 5/5.
There literally is no place nicer to live than Blackwell. It is like living in a hotel for 6 months. There's helpful people at the desk, its very safe, theres a gym, and communal bathrooms that are cleaned twice daily. The building manager is this really hip swag 30ish year old and he's doing an amazing job keeping everything clean and working. Pros: Location (Super close to campus), cleanliness, admin, gym (not a lot of stuff there, but RSF is 2 min away too so...) Cons: Not much other than the room can feel a little small in comparison to a triple from unit 2 for example. No common space in the room, just 2 beds and desks. No kitchen, but there is a microwave and fridge. Socially it also gets a bit dead after the first few weeks, but a...
It's pretty close to a 5 star hotel. Everything is super bougie, study lounges are amazing, rooms are amazing, bathroom is amazing, location is amazing. There is a private gym for Blackwell folks as well which is top notch. The only downside is that it's hard to get in unless you're regents or get lucky, and also slightly less social than the units IMO.
Loved the location, on the corner of Dana and Durant; loved the building, clean and brand new, and the rooms were pretty good too, little small but privacy wall between my roommate and I and nice size closet and drawers.
The biggest problem with Blackwell is getting in - don't expect to get in unless you or your roommate is Regents. The rooms are a bit smaller than other doubles (ie. unit 1) but the floor length mirror and new furniture make up for it. The lounges on each floor are really nice, but usually occupied and they blast the AC.
I lived here both freshman and sophomore year, no contest the best dorm on campus. Only thing is that some people that lived there were slobs and didn’t treat the place with the respect it deserved. Also the floor isn't naturally social – you gotta put yourself out there if you want to be friends with your hallmates. Gonna miss the gym, ethernet, and how close it was to campus, the air conditioning, the friendliness of the staff – also it has the BEST SHOWERS out of all of the dorm. No contest
