McCutcheon is a solid living experience. The rooms are standard for a freshman dorm and have a decent bit of storage space built in between the closet and under the bed. The bathrooms were somewhat recently remodeled so they're in good condition, but they are communal which can make taking a shower at peak hours difficult, plus little privacy. The building is nothing special but has solid amenities (laundry, vending machines, study/communal spots) and is fairly close to the other dorms. The worst part is the location. McCutcheon is at the furthest edge of campus from academic campus and from Chauncey. If you have a car, you can park right next door, which is rare for a res hall, but you're likely living here your freshman year without a ca...
Let’s be honest, there’s only so much you can expect out of a first year dorm. I would say McCutcheon is about as good as they get in most respects - I’m in a double, which has just enough room and doesn’t feel too crowded, the bathroom is recently updated and clean enough, and there really isn’t much of a noise problem. The AC is a plus, too. The biggest con is the location - you’ll hear the term “McCutcheon Mile”, as it’s the farthest dorm from classes and most on-campus dining locations. However, that helps with the noise, and it is next door to a big student parking garage for those who drive. The elevators also frequently have issues. Otherwise, I would say you could do a lot worse than McCutcheon for your first year.
Never use the front entrance unless you’re a pilot. There’s no reason it should face that way. The fastest ways to get to class are stairs or second floor middle exit and use the bus. Rooms are not bad but pretty standard. Walk in closets are nice. Bathrooms are dirty but not unbearably so. There’s a bunch of lounges that nobody uses, so I feel like Mccutcheon’s potential is a lot higher. Maybe if they built a Harrison grill and market in one of them. The vending machines don’t work either.
Bathrooms were renovated 2 years before I moved in and are nice. We had our own computer lab in the lobby which was very nice, but meant we didn't have a study area in the lobby. People interacted on the floor a lot but it was meant for mostly freshman only when I was there. The room had a walk in closet that was small but nice. The only real negative was not much drawer/dresser space.
This is the farthest form on campus however it has A/C so it’s just good enough to b out complain about much.
