Holden Hall Reviews
Michigan State University South Neighborhood
Reviews Summary
Holden Hall, located in the South neighborhood, offers a mix of amenities and challenges that create a unique living experience for students. The suite-style dorm rooms with connected bathrooms are particularly appreciated for their convenience, though room quality varies, and issues with pests like ants, rats, and cockroaches have been noted. Despite these drawbacks, residents enjoy the proximity to athletic facilities and events, the Trowbridge shopping center, and convenient access to personal transportation. The building itself houses a variety of useful features such as a Grab and Go Dining Hall, which offers mobile ordering, a Sparty's convenience store, and a fitness center for exercise enthusiasts. Furthermore, Holden Hall provides abundant study spaces and hangout spots, perfect for fostering a communal environment. However, the dining hall food receives mixed reviews, and the location may pose challenges for RCAH/science majors due to its distance from certain classes. Still, Holden Hall's central amenities and vibrant atmosphere make it an attractive option for many students.

I stayed on the top floor of west in 2019, which may affect my score, but for a dorm it was pretty nice. Suite bathrooms so it was clean as long as you/your suitemates were, Caf in the building (although it was my least fav, I could always get cereal and a sandwich). Easy access to the Trowbridge shopping center was a plus for me since I liked buying fresh produce (it’s less than a 10 min walk) and if you have a car it’s fairly close to parking. Also basketball courts in the back and the engagement center in building, so easy access to math and writing tutors. I’m also fairly certain south has the largest square footage of all the neighborhoods.
Biggest downside was rlly the caf food, and we had a slight ant problem when it was warm out. ...

Having this be my first dorm in college was definitely an experience. I loved how close to everything I was, and the random things that would happen at night. I do have to admit that I was on the first floor, and there was a rat problem. I also know the cockroaches were as well. So be prepared. I used to use the to-go orders, which was very convenient for me when I needed to grab something before class. I loved the environment Holden had, and honestly it was a great experience. I guess you just have to be open minded☺️.

Holden hall had a lot of issues with the only benefits were it’s treadmill, spartys, and mobile order with the mobile order being the only special factor with this hall, wonders had a much better gym if you can’t make the journey to IM west which is roughly a 15 minute walk. The spartys in case is much better as well. Overall the hall isn’t bad but it’s really far away from everything and looks like a prison.

Easy access to your own bathroom, close to most of your classes, and can set your tv in front of the window, but lacks space and is a little bit far from the cafeteria in the south.

Personally I really loved staying in Holden Hall during my freshman year. Although south neighborhood was not my favorite location, it was convenient for football, basketball, and hockey games. In my opinion, Holden is the best dorm building in south neighborhood because of the Sparty’s, Grab and Go Dining Hall, Writing Center, and Fitness Center. There’s plenty of great study spaces and hang out spots as well!

Lived in a double suite connected to a bathroom and another double. Rooms themselves were pretty bad but the main level lounge area is beautiful. Lots of spaces through different hallways to do your homework, plus direct connection to a dining hall and a convenience store built in. Despite being on south campus near many of the athletic facilities, you'll probably find it difficult to find a place to fill up your water bottle.
