Leonard Hall Reviews

American University

Reviews Summary

Leonard Hall offers a mixed experience for its residents, featuring both appealing amenities and significant drawbacks. Recent renovations, completed in the summer of 2023, have enhanced the living environment with beautiful lounges and private bathrooms, fostering a solid community across its floors. The hall also provides spectacular views from higher floors, adding to its charm. However, safety and maintenance issues raise concerns, as easy access for non-residents has been reported, along with malfunctioning toilets and elevators, the latter sometimes causing students to get trapped. Bathrooms, although private, suffer from poor maintenance, privacy issues with transparent shower curtains, and inconvenient layouts. The hall's remote location complicates access for new students and deliveries, and the dorm rooms' carpeted floors are less than ideal, particularly as temperatures soar in spring. Despite its benefits, Leonard Hall is often criticized for being hot and uncomfortable, leading to mixed reviews from its residents.

Great experience! Best floor lounges on AU’s campus which is great for community building. The first floor hatch is great too. Bathrooms offer ample privacy. Also, if you get a higher floor in Leonard the Views are amazing.

The renovations made to the dorm in the summer of 2023 have made Leonard’s a great place to live. I have zero complaints and love this hall. Private bathrooms, beautiful lounges, great hall experience.

It is unsafe when bad things happen, and anyone can walk into Leonard without ID. The bathrooms are disgusting, and some toilets stop working halfway through the semester. Elevators go right by the fourth floor for some reason, or you can get trapped in them. The showers have no stalls on them with locks, so they use shitty shower curtains where you can see through the sides, and it is extremely uncomfortable, especially if you're a girl. The dorms get so hot during the spring that you must keep your shades down so your room isn't a sauna. Honestly, I hate living here and recommend that no student lives here.

Far from other freshmen dorms and classes, difficult terrain to access quickly and confusing for delivery drivers and parents alike. The bathrooms are poorly maintained and the rooms have carpets. Typically full of exchange students. Gets absurdly hot in the spring.

Beat up dorm, my year was the building was infamous for never having functioning elevators, as people would sometimes get trapped. AU only sends you to this dorm if they hate you.
