Stanford University Freshman Dorms Ranked

Ranking the best sophomore dorms at Stanford University, according to students.

  • Number 5

    Sterling Quad

    based on 2 reviews

"I lived in Potter for my Sophomore year. The building was old and requires key access. The halls were always barely lit. The showers didn’t really work for you if you were over 5’7 because the orientation of the shower head. The rooms were awkwardly sized. Long rooms with not much width. Dorm staff didn’t really care my year. Had a guy living in the computer cluster that refused to clean his mess. 2/10." - 4 years ago

    Soto

    based on 1 review

"The dorm is older and I think dorms such as Branner or Toyon Hall are nicer in comparison. However, the location is great. If given the choice between living in GovCo (very nice dorms, very spatious, in comparison to Soto which is quite old and the dorms are very small), I am not sure which one I'd pick. I think my advice is to not fixate too heavily on which dorm you're assigned but to realize that all dorms have their pros and cons. " - 1 year ago

    Naranja

    based on 2 reviews

"Most of the rooms in Naranja are singles (a few doubles at the ends of each hallway), and they all come with an in-room sink. Bathrooms are communal as usual at Stanford, but there is one private bathroom/shower on the first floor. Not sure if there's one on the second floor as well.

Main pros: lots of singles, in-room sink, close to lag dining, close to tres/central campus despite being a west campus dorm.

Main cons: old building, laundry room is next door in the Meier basement, no in-house dining hall, no filtered water bottle refill stations like in Meier (as of 2019)." - 3 years ago

    Murray (GovCo)

    based on 5 reviews

"The room is clean and well-lit. There is an awkward balance of 2-room doubles, 1-room doubles, and singles, but it's not a big deal. The facility is nice. There's a dining hall downstairs that only serves food during meal hours M-F, but then we don't have meal plan dollars. The community is nice! I'm friends with most people in the dorm. The bathroom is pretty clean. The location is great: right in front of the gym, very close to the Engineering Quad and Tresidder. However, kind of distant from Green Library and most East Campus residences." - 2 years ago

    Donner

    based on 1 review

"Amazing location on campus, few minutes away from Main Quad by walking and even less by bike. Dining hall is alright usually, but weekend brunch specials are top tier. Bathrooms are almost always clean.

Downside: Laundry. Donner shares its laundry facilities with another dorm in Stern, yet the laundry is limited to seven washers and eight dryers. The dryers tend to go out of commission from misuse, but as of writing, half of the dryers are currently broken." - 2 years ago
