"There are cockroaches everywhere. There is no air conditioning. Compared to other equally priced dorms on campus (minus the ~$150 upcharge for AC which you have very little control over since you can't directly select your dorm as a freshmen), Lane Hall makes motel six look like the Ritz. Security differences between some of the other dorms and Lane Hall are worrying. While there are keycard locks at the entrance to the South Academy and Redding Hall buildings and at the entrance to each hallway inside the building. Only one keycard lock protects the four floor building. Do not listen to the RAs toeing the company line "oh, I actually liked not having air conditioning, it gave us a sense of community." Do you think that the university would install a student building supervisor who would not regurgitate such propaganda? Of course not. Martha Stewart could host an entire cooking show out of the South Academy kitchen (which is also hilariously keycard locked) as there are several wall mounted television screens and an overhead camera recording the five working stove top burners. At Lane, there is a stove older than I am and only one of the four burners function. It really isn't the custodial staff's fault either, this primarily has to do with how shitty and ancient the building is. The university bean counters seem to be vehemently against even entertaining the idea of renovating the hall, because why would they spend a year and a ton of money to renovate it when all the incoming freshmen have no other choice but to live here or claim to have asthma and get moved. In glorious conclusion, total shit box would not stay here again. Do compare to a review of one of the nicer dorms here for contrast. "

"Horrible horrible horrible. Cockroaches!!!! (do I need to say anything else???!!!) No ac—my room was probably over 100 degrees the first month or two of school. Rooms are so small, I was literally on top of my roommate at all times. 1 kitchen for the whole BUILDING on the first floor which was a pain. Mailroom for both Lane and Thompson was on the first floor which was nice and the basement lounge is air conditioned. Also no elevator and communal bathrooms. Great location—right across from perkins and the dining hall and a short walk to classes. They seriously need to get rid of both Lane and Thompson and build something new with ac!!!!!"

"Probably the best freshman dorm on campus in terms of standard of living. They are suite style rooms with a majority of them being built to be doubles but end up being forced triples. The rooms are decently sized for this and having a bathroom connecting the suites makes it even better. The worst thing about this dorm is the 20 minute walk to Main Campus. If you have friends that live on East Campus like a majority of Freshmen then the walk is more likely to be 30 minuets and can suck after a 3 AM bender. All in all a solid dorm."

"Lived in a single dorm during the 2021-2022 school year. Double rooms seemed fine. Single room has a great amount of space. Communal bathrooms were fine, but the students can be dirty. Dryers in the laundry room can be kinda faulty. Work out area is meh but convenient. Very good location."

"People here are loud, so it was hard to sleep at night. That’s my only complaint. I loved Russell’s Dining Hall, so this was an ideal dorm for me to live in because it was only a two minute walk away."
