Vanderbilt University (informally Vandy or VU) is a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee.

Vandy dorms come in many different styles; traditional single/double rooms, 3-4 person apartments, 10 person houses, and residential college dorms that include singles, doubles, and suites that accommodate 4-6 people. First-year students are intentionally grouped together on Commons, which is where all the freshman dorms are. Upperclassmen dorms are spread out across campus; some near the engineering buildings, others in the middle of campus, and others scattered around. One thing to keep in mind is that Vandy is shifting away from traditional dorms and in the process of pivoting towards a pure residential college system!

Kissam offers an exceptional living experience with its modern amenities and strong community atmosphere, embodying the new residential college vibe. Residents rave about the abundance of natural light through numerous windows, making both rooms and hallways bright and inviting. Spacious accommodations range from singles and doubles to large suites accommodating up to six people, each equipped with a shared restroom, common area, and kitchenette, making them ideal for both personal space and hosting get-togethers. While Kissam is slightly distanced from main campus buildings, its proximity to West End Avenue and 21st Avenue is appreciated, and the enchanting paths and trees along the way make for a pleasant commute. The dorm provides both communal and private bathrooms, which are well-maintained. Dining is convenient with an on-site dining hall and the popular Kissam Munchie Mart, where residents can use meal swipes for various offerings, including unique acai bowls. Social activities, such as the Sunday Fresh Baked event, foster a warm community feel. Despite its distance from the Rec Center and quieter social environment, the vibrant interactions and exceptional living conditions make Kissam a highly desirable residence for Vanderbilt students.

North House is a college dorm that offers a range of features appreciated by its residents. It is conveniently located closest to campus compared to other Commons houses, providing easy access to university facilities. The building, although old, boasts some charms such as spacious rooms and walk-in closets, with faux wood floors adding a cozy touch instead of the standard tile typical in other dorms. One of the standout aspects is that the first and second floors offer private bathrooms, a convenience that enhances the living experience, despite reports that some may be prone to flooding. However, a significant downside is the lack of on-site laundry facilities, requiring residents to use another building's laundry services, which can be less than ideal. Nevertheless, the dorm's community is often described positively, with good people and a great communal atmosphere. Under the leadership of Dr. McClure, who many consider the best head of house, North House provides a solid living environment despite its shortcomings.
