The building is okay and the lounges are nice. No AC is rough at the start and end of the year, and there are only like 8 washers for the few hundred students that live in the building. Nice if you want a quiet environment.
The room can feel a little small, but I typically didn't study in my dorm. I used the kitchen in the lounge pretty often to cook and bake. Morton Williams and H Mart are down the street, so you can easily get supplies. I also went to Starbucks once in a while and appreciated its close proximity to Furnald. I'm not a party person, so I was happy at Furnald. If you're a party person, I recommend going to Carman.
Pros: - clean and new facilities with big kitchen and lounge on every floor - some of the biggest first-year singles you can get - one of the most sought-after second year dorm - incredibly nice people and community - proximity to Starbucks, Morton Williams, and Lululemon just across the street (literally 2 min walk) - close to the subway, MTA bus station, and Columbia intercampus shuttle bus station just one block away - closest dining hall is Ferris, which has a great selection of food and free to-go utensils (other dining halls are more strict about take-out) - large laundry room Cons: - expect to party somewhere else, but Carman isn't that far and you don't have to live with vomit in elevators and bathroom floors all the time
