"Roth quad is the nicest and closest dorm to the academic buildings for lower-classman. Most of the buildings in the quad have A/C. Hendrix is the closest to Javits (literally can roll out of bed 10 mins. before class). The building layout is more open than other buildings (like Gershwin and Whitman). The common lounge is nice when you want to watch movies with your friends. I also think Hendrix is the only building in the quad that has a functioning elevator for daily use. Only con is the mold problem on the carpets. Chose the second floor if you don't want bugs during the beginning of the fall semester."

"Pros: Very close your all your classes and East Side Dinning Hall. Big room. Cons: Shared bathroom with about 20 people. "

  • Hand College at Stony Brook

Rated 3.9 / 5 stars by 2 Stony Brook students

"Pros: Having a kitchen is nice so you won't have to get a meal plan if you can cook. Close to Tabler Center to study and grab some drinks or snacks. Have a big lawn that is beautiful and pleasant. Good natural light depending on the time of day. Cons: Far from campus and your classes. Small room compared to the freshman dorms. Sophomore standing to dorm here. "

"Suite style with 3 doubles. Bedrooms are a bit small. The bathroom is built for multiple people which is nice. There is an elevator (albeit a bit slow). Worst part is the 4 flights of stairs you have to climb to get into the community and how far you are from WSD and the LIRR station."

"It’s an alright housing location, but sometimes the wifi is buggy. Also, watch out for those people who throw their laundry in the machines and forget about them till 6 hours later.."

"Public lounge areas are nice and clean. The suites are nice, but small. The elevator at Eisenhower seems a bit outdated because doors take a long time to close and shakes sometimes."

"My room is a double so I share it with a roommate. The room is surprisingly spacious, and the window is big. My suite has a balcony which is nice. "

  • Lauterbur Hall at Stony Brook

Rated 4.3 / 5 stars by 1 Stony Brook student

"Lauterbur is pretty great to live in. Rooms are usually suites of 6 people where there's 3 doubles. The sinks are in the hallway but its pretty annoying that the toilet and shower are in separate rooms. The rooms are dorm sized as usual but there's pretty good natural light that comes into the room. The location is great because West Side Dining is right in front of you and the SAC/center of campus is not far from there either. The bus stop is also right in front of the building. Overall great place to live."

  • Rated 4.5 / 5 stars by 1 Stony Brook student

"The location is great as it's very close to West Dining, it's within a 10 min walk to the main buildings of the campus, and a lot of the buses stop right in front of the building. The bedrooms are a bit small. The living rooms in the suites are a nice size. The bathroom I think is the best part as it's great for multiple people. The lounges are a little bit depressing, but maybe because the building is quite old. There is also an elevator in the building. Not sure about the differences between all the buildings in the Kelly community though."

"It's one of the newer dorms, so it's definitely cleaner than the older buildings. There's great sun exposure and I like how the shower and toilet are in separate rooms with the sinks in the hallway. Kind of far from the rec center though, but at least west dining is across the street. I had some bad stink bug and lady bug infestations back in the spring semester though."
