Is Main House the best dorm at Vassar College?

Students rated Main House a 3.9/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.

I lived on the second floor of Main and it is probably the most neglected floor. Due to the Main layout, (Main is a dorm building with administrative offices on the first floor and part of the second floor), getting to another side of the building requires you to either walk up to the third floor or walk down to the first floor. Basically, it is detached from the other side of the second floor because there are admin offices that take up the majority of the second floor and this is closed off for students. the bathrooms SUCK! It is literally awful; we have mold, a leaky ceiling, and really gross overall. BUTTT If the other floors in Main are not too bad, especially the 5th floor. They re-did the fifth floor and it looks soo nice! THe rooms are big and the bathrooms are clean and decent. I lived in a triple on the second floor and although our room was pretty big, we have a HUGEE mice issue. We caught so many mice using traps and we did file complaints but they did not do much.

I lived on the 4th central floor of Main and it was great. They are renovating each floor over the summer and this past summer they just did 4th cent. As a result, I got to live in a new room with all the new furniture. My room faced the library and Main Drive and, in my opinion, it was the best view! On top of that, you get pretty awesome sunsets and golden-hour lighting! I loved my room so much! The bathrooms were also renovated so everything was new and up to date. It does get pretty messy in the bathroom but that is the reality of living in a gender natural dorm. With that being said, the cleaning staff does clean the bathroom every day except on weekends (usually when the bathroom gets the messiest). I have been living in Main since I started college and I still find it to be the best dorm on campus due to its location and versatility as a dorm building and event space. A lot of the main academic offices are in Main (class registration office, deans offices, career development office, etc...) and you can get food and your mail from the Main College Center which is right downstairs (so you do not need to leave the building to get your mail!) As mentioned a lot of events happen in Main as it is a big central hub and the space to hold these events is better. Overall I really like my room this year. Just a note Main 5th floor (including the wings and the central floor), 4th floor cent. and 3rd floor cent. are all renovated floors.
