"Let’s be honest here. The bathrooms, depending on what floor of the tower you live in and who you live with on that floor determines how clean it will be. Though the bathrooms are cleaned everyday, having a floor mate who doesn’t flush the toilet after pooing or leaving piss all over the toilet seat is nasty asf. But at least for my floor the toilets and 1 of the showers work properly. The actual dorm room itself is fine. It can get extremely hot during the start of the school year bc they don’t act right, but during winter and snowy months I sometimes keep the window open and turn the fan on bc I like sleeping in the cold. The slc food ain’t that bad. Good breakfast, good lunch and dinner and snacks. Only get food that is from the grill and subway subs! If not you will get food poisoning. I’ve been getting the same 5 things, haven’t gotten sick once. Make sure to check your food for hair and other nasty things as they don’t clean the dc that much. We saw a rat down there the other day and a spider was hanging out around the sauce dispensers. The lounge on the tower floors are a great place to eat when you need to get away from people. Great to take naps too and just look out at esm. Looks amazing when it snows too. Just make sure to close both windows before sleeping. There was one day I woke up at like accidentally at 3 am and was freezing my ass off, never felt so cold before. Granted both my windows were open and the fan was on, but as soon as I stepped out that door. BOOM it was colder in the hallway than it was in my room, I walked around and looked at the lounge and saw both windows were wide open and it was raining with a cold harsh wind. It aside from that, the actual dc eating area is neglected most times. As I’m writing this I’m noticing that the dc workers are going on strike tomorrow and they wrote one eye opening thing; “it will be drastically dirtier than usual”. That’s ironic, I can’t even find a clean table to sit down at for lunch bc trash and crumbs are left everywhere. Make sure when you’re getting a drink from the machine that you let it run for a few seconds. This is because everyone’s drink comes out that same dispenser so there’s little black particles that are leftover in your drink if you don’t let it run. Laundry is basic, it’s free. Make sure you put a timer on your phone that ends 3-4 minutes before your cycle ends, if not an asshole WILL leave your damp cloths out from the dryer (you typically have to dry your cloths twice or for 90 mins to get them actually dry) and washer. Make sure not to leave your clothes or they’ll end up gone in a day or two. Orchestra pit used to be an actual place to eat and hang but now all the dc workers hang out in there which is weird and uncomfortable. Media lab is a great place to really lock in and do your papers. There’s an unwritten rule on our floor that you don’t go in the restroom when someone’s showering just cause the shower curtain doesn’t cover that much. " - 1 year ago

    Gilbert Hall

    based on 1 review

"Gilbert Dormitory is a quality dorm for freshmen looking for a place with close proximity to the academic quad and dining halls. It is not the most modern dorm but it makes up for this with the number of laundry machines. Overall it is a nice dorm with everything you need as freshman." - 3 years ago

    Hoeing Hall

    based on 2 reviews

"What Hoeing and most of the quad dorms lack in amenities they make up in social life. Alot of people in these dorms know one another and talk regularly compared to Sue B and Genessee. There will almost always be something happening in the common area so it will be alot easier to talk and meet new people. The biggest drawback here was that the dorms were pretty bad and the lighting was dim at best. If your living here definitely invest in some lights." - 4 years ago

    Tiernan Hall

    based on 1 review

"Tiernan is a great dorm for first-years! It is close to most dining options (Douglass and The Pit) as well as the academic quad. Socially speaking, it is also close to the off-campus bridge and fraternity quad (which may be loud some nights). There are also big common rooms on each floor which make it easy for meeting new people and making friends. While the furniture's a little outdated, my room (double) was spacious but would be cramped for triples. There was also only one window in my room and my roommate was on the side of it, so it was pretty dark on my side. The bathrooms are standard and usually pretty clean. Also, it's much better to be on a higher floor to avoid any cockroaches or mice.

    Susan B. Anthony Hall

    based on 1 review

"I lived in a double on the third floor my freshman year. Susan B. Anthony is really nice because Danforth Dining Hall and the Hillside convenience store are located on the first floor. The restrooms were regularly maintained so the toilets, showers, and sinks were pretty clean.

The dorm itself is not super nice or anything like that but it's also not bad. It was spacious enough, with a closet, drawer, desk, and shelf for each inhabitant of the room. There are two common spaces and also a kitchen on every floor. " - 10 months ago

    Genesee Hall

    based on 1 review

"It’s the newest residence hall on campus. Close to campus center and both dining halls. It has a nice view of the sports field and great study areas. The bathrooms are very private and the best you can get as a freshman. Best dorm on campus 100%." - 1 year ago
