Elm Hall
Rated 3.1 / 5 stars by 2 Iowa State University students
"The rooms in Elm are bigger than most other dorms I’ve seen. My roommate and I bunked our beds which saved a ton of space too. I liked being close to Lied and Convos, but the main drawback was having no AC. The whole building is also outdated but once you get past that it’s really not too bad. "

"This is a really great dorm to live in. It is one of the dorms open through winter break and it makes it a good option for someone who doesn't have somewhere to go over the holidays. I had no problems with bugs or air-conditioning breaking down. It also has a great central location on campus and allows easy access to the MU. The biggest con is that this dorm is a minimum 10 minute walk to any dining hall and in the winter that becomes very inconvenient because of the cold and snow."

"Rooms are somewhat small and the hall itself is kind of old. Managed to get into a house with people I like and a den with a TV and ping pong table. No AC, so had to survive through a heat wave first 2 weeks of school then after that it doesn't matter. Has a nice common area. Smelly communal bathrooms that aren't half bad and are cleaned every WEEKday but it makes up for it with kind of smelly public bathrooms open to anyone but private with one at a time. Good location, as it is next to some of classes/TA sessions and 2 dinings halls as well as Dominos for after 12:00 am runs, and also close to the State gym."

"Best place to live. It may be far from campus, but the community is the best and Storms wing night slaps."

"Friley was really great to live in. Part of Friley has AC and the other part doesn't. There are two laundry rooms on the bottom floor of the building. Friley is also home to Windows, which is one of the better dining centers on campus. All the bathrooms are communal single sex bathrooms. There is an elevator although most people take the stairs (even to the 5th floor). Mail is at UDCC which is close to the building but you do have to go outside. Friley is extremely close to the engineering buildings on campus and also has Cy-Ride stops right outside that go pretty much everywhere. I would definitely recommend this dorm to incoming freshman."

"Geoffroy Hall is the newest dorm building on campus so everything there is super mordern compared to the other dorms on campus. Something to note is that a lot of people in Geoffroy are greek life people that stills can’t live in there house, but I’ve made some of my closest friends on campus there. The amenities are great, there’s a den in every house where you can study or hang out, an activity room with games and a projector, and plenty of study rooms. Bathrooms are shared between the floor which isn’t the best but they’re overall nice bathrooms."

"This was definitely a good place to live for a freshman who wants to meet people. The rooms themselves are fine. They're not tiny and they're not huge, basically just your standard dorm rooms. They do have AC & heat which is pretty nice although my roommate & I never learned how to adjust ours so we kind of just dealt with whatever temperatures the room was. We also never learned how to open our window, so I would reccomend doing both of those things. The best thing about living here, 100%, is the Orange 23 bus stop that is right outside the dorm complex. It was so convenient to just roll out of bed in the morning & hop on the bus, but especially in the winter they were always super full. It's also really nice to have Seasons right below you and the little East Side Market store is good for times when you just want a snack. Overall, decent dorm. It's nothing amazing, you do have to use communal bathrooms and they're not horrible but it's not great either. But generally speaking, this would be a decent place to live, especially for your first year."
